About Us

The Laird’s Larder was established in July 2004, in the border city of Carlisle, by Lorraine Phillips and her daughter, Jodie Laird. Their philosophy was to showcase the outstanding food of artisan producers from Cumbria, the UK and mainland Europe, while delivering unbeatable customer service and attention to detail.

After three years the business had outgrown its home in Carlisle’s medieval quarter and Lorraine and Jodie began searching for new premises. It was at this juncture that Klondyke Garden Centres stepped in.

Scottish based and owned, Klondyke Garden Centres was formed in 1980 by the Gault family. Klondyke merged with another family owned garden centre group, William Strike Ltd in 1996 and now run 18 garden centres throughout Scotland, Northern England and Wales.

Houghton Hall is the newest addition to the Klondyke group, purpose built and designed for the group it opened Easter Weekend 2006. The centre is situated just north of Carlisle, one mile from junction 44 on the M6. As well as the fabulous range of plants and gardening essentials you’d expect to find, Houghton Hall now boasts an incredible Food Hall, The Laird’s Larder.

Inside you will find all the gorgeous gourmet treats you would expect of this exciting delicatessen, with the added bonus of an in-store butchery, specialising in premium Galloway beef from the Gaults’ own farm in South West Scotland. There is also a fantastic range of cooking utensils, suitable for even the keenest of amateur cooks, as well as an outstanding range of wines, ports and Champagnes to suit all pockets.

As always, The Laird’s Larder will continue to offer its incredibly popular hamper service, a particular favourite as the festive season approaches. The hampers will be available to order in-store, or through our tantalising website.

We look forward to welcoming all customers, old and new. Whether you are shopping online or in the food hall, you can be assured of the highest standards in customer service, which has always been the cornerstone of both The Laird’s Larder and Klondyke Garden Centres’ business philosophy.
